JP

This hip-hop artist, entrepreneur, writer, minister, speaker and dreamer from Mount Vernon, NY was supposed to have been born brain dead. Defying odds from birth, Rodney Jeremiah “JP” Reynolds(fka J Prophet) has dedicated his journey to speaking life in inventive ways. He is passionate about cultivating dreams by bringing his energy and vision to the process of unlocking possibility and re-imagining who we can be.

His innovative sound blends jazz, soul, and gospel into an eclectic hip-hop gumbo. JP has performed at venues such as the 50th Anniversary March on Washington, Bread for the World’s National Gathering, Ford Fusion’s 2012 Advertising Campaign, and The Apollo Theater Soundstage. A national artist, JP has shared the stage with performers ranging from Hezekiah Walker to ones like Lupe Fiasco. As a writer JP has developed various works including “The Secrets of How to Make it as A Young Black Man” and the “In the Word” series.

With an entrepreneurial spirit JP has imagined and constructed a platform for other artists, creatives, and dreamers to tell their own stories. Peace and Power Media is an artistic hub that produces music, visual content, and written text.

JP is also building community where millennial dreamers, thinkers, lovers, and justice doers can connect with others. Although the connections may happen primarily through music, the Peace and Power Family is a community to help folks develop spiritual connection to God and to provide a platform to address issues of social justice.

JP holds a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies and a Master of Divinity, both from Yale University. During his tenure there, JP was a member of the Yale Football Team, WORD Performance Poetry, Yale Black Seminarians, and served as President of the Yale Black Men’s Union. A 2011-2013 Yale Divinity School Sullivan Scholar, he has received multiple awards including the 2010 William Pickens Prize for outstanding research in African-American Studies, the 2010 John Blassingame Research Award, and the 2009 James E. Keppel award for an offensive back who best exhibits work ethic and dedication. He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In 2012 he was licensed to preach the gospel at his home church, Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, NY.

In addition to his life as an artist and entrepreneur, JP is currently a Dream Director with The Future Project at Hudson High School for Learning Technologies in New York, NY.
